South Africa | South 32 – Mamatwan Mine Top-Cut Material Processing | Manganese |
The Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) aimed at identifying the most practical and effective processing solution for the top-cut material. The PFS was required to investigate, select, and consolidate the preferred processing alternative to progress into Feasibility Study (FS), develop a Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimate and schedule, and establish an FS scope to minimise the risk of cost overruns and/or schedule delays during the execution of the Project |

Botswana | Lucara (Karowe Mine) | Diamonds | Transition from open pit mining to underground via a production shaft (770 m) and ventilation shaft (728 m),including raise bored material handling ore passes, level development of 1550 meters in total, level construction, production shaft equipping and permanent winder supply and installation. | Current –to be complete in 2025 |
Brazil | ERO (Caraíba Pilar Deepening Project Brazil) | Copper |
The Pilar Deepening Project is designed to access deeper reserves of the Pilar Mine, which has been operating for nearly 40 years, first as open pit mine and thereafter as an underground mine with ramp access. The project includes a vertical shaft 6.3m in diameter and 1500m deep, with permanent facilities to hoist rock (ore and waste) and raise/lower personnel to this underground level. The shaft is being sunk in a unique raise-bore and slash method with follow-on shaft sidewall support and concrete lining. This method will improve the rate of advance in shaft sinking, delivering the commissioned shaft in quicker time. The project is being executed by UMS through four packages of work; (i) design, engineering and procurement services for the new shaft, (ii) shaft pre-sink construction and change over, (iii) main sink construction, (iv) shaft equipping and commissioning. |
